Bow And Arrow

How to Make an Accurate Bow and Arrow

Here is a fun project and one that many wouldn't think of at first. In fact though, in past times many people needed to do this for survival although now it is more of an exercise to do something fun and unique.

This project is making a bow and arrow.

No hold on, making a bow and arrow takes patience and careful judgment. Everything should be done in the right proportion to attain balance. Thus, the right amount of whittling is crucial in bow and arrow making. It is certainly an art.

Seldom can we make a perfect bow and arrow the first time around. It needs a lot of practice before we can come up with accurate ones. But the correct procedure in making them matters a lot. So here are correct steps in making a bow and arrow.

Select an appropriate wood for our bow-deadwood of hazel, ash, yew, or hickory. Wood selection is crucial for our bow and arrow. Usually the correct length for the bow is the height of the user. It should also be flexible and at least an inch in thickness. Then we cut a half-circle notch at one end of the bow. From the tip it should be an inch away.

Make the notch deep enough, about halfway through the thickness of the wood. The half-circle notch should be at a 90 degree angle with the side of the bow facing outward. Then carefully whittle the ends of our bow. Whittling is another crucial thing in bow making and a key factor in the success of our bow and arrow. The center of the bow should be thick but its ends should be whittled enough to bend but not break.

With arrows, we may choose the wood varieties above or opt for black locust, oak, or elm. They should be 2 feet long and ½ inch in diameter. Whittle the entire length to make them straight and smooth. At the end of each arrow should be a tiny V or U shaped notch where we insert the string of the bow for a perfect bow and arrow set.

The bowstring is a hemp string about 3 and 3/4 to 4 and ½ feet in length. Tie the ends to the notched ends of the bow. Make sure it's ends are looped securely around the half-circle notches. Also, the bow should be curved a bit when the string is already attached. Put a tail at the rear ends of the arrows using small triangular cardboards (1 and ¼ inch base and 3 and ¾ inch height) glued about an inch away from the rear tip end.

For an effective bow and arrow, remember to whittle just right. The bow and arrow should have balanced bodies. The hemp string should be shorter than the bow. And the bow material should be strong and straight.

After making our own bow and arrow we can try them out in the woods. Practice hitting targets. Remember, often our bow and arrow are only as good as our skills.

Am I right handed or left handed?
I can't snap with my right. I can't play guitar right handed. I can't swing a bat right handed. I can't hold a BB gun right handed. I can't shoot a bow and arrow right handed. I punch harder with my left. The only things I do with my right is write, use scissors and throw a ball. My older brother was left handed, I have pictures of him writing left handed.

What is a good way to kill a dragon in Skyrim as a warrior?
I want to know how to kill a dragon as a warrior. I'm really weak lol, I can't even kill a frost troll, he hits me two times and I die. I know I have to level up but is a bow and arrow more efficient for warrior or do you rush in and hack and slash at the dragon?

Cheerleading Tryouts - Best Tips?
I'm going to be a senior in high school next year and am going to be trying out for cheerleading on July 31st. This gives me around 11 weeks, or two months, to improve and polish my dancing, tumbling, and yelling skills. Any tips that anyone can give me would be great. My friend and I are looking for a gymnastics establishment to enroll into as I am a dancer and she used to be a gymnast - we both just need to get back into the old habit of things. We're both pretty fit, but are always looking to improve, especially now, and are going to the fitness center to strength train several times a week, as well as taking zumba classes and doing it at home to improve our cardio endurance. I'm pretty much a health nut, and drink 7-8 bottles of water a day, so that's not a problem, and we get 6 hours of sleep or more each night. There are 25-30 spots on the team, and there will be two divisions - a regular cheer squad and a competition squad. It's possible to make both, one or the other, or neither. We're planning to contact the coach and/or cheerleaders from the previous year in about a week (as state testing is this week) and ask what skills will be most needed for each squad. I'm planning on dedicating myself to this as I'm a rather responsible young lady and always put my all into everything I do. I'm a bit of a perfectionist but that's not always bad, and since we'll be practicing six days a week if I make it, I think it's important that I'm going to be dedicated. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do further to better my chances of making the squad? I really don't want links as answers, I want experienced people who want to help me; please. Any really good flexibility-strengthening stretches or standard stunts/jumps (toe-touch, bow-and-arrow, scorpion, etc.) that I should know how to do to make the squad would be awesome advice. I know the regular cheering squad at my school doesn't do much tumbling at all but I want to impress the judges as much as I can. I can do a great cartwheel and am working on walk-overs and handsprings. Anything that can help me improve my tumbling and flexibility will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

What is a good title for my story?
Basically it's a FanFiction about Marvel and Glimmer from the Hunger Games and how their feelings towards one another change. Here is what I have: ?You?re an idiot. You think that you?re gonna be able to sneak up on someone and get CLOSE enough to use that?? Marvel looked at the dagger in his hand. The girl had a point. He never was any good at throwing things. Unlike that Clove girl from District 2. He had to choose a different weapon. One that he could use from afar. Like a bow and arrow! He looked around him to see if anyone else was brilliant enough to have thought of that. He looked at the girl from District 12- the one with that cool flame dress- just in time to see her let go of the string and hit the target dead center. He would be no match for her. He just couldn?t win. He had tried everything in the training room. He wasn?t strong. He wasn?t fast. He wasn?t good at camouflage. He couldn?t throw knives. He couldn?t climb trees. He couldn?t kill things easily- or at all. His conscience wouldn?t allow it. He couldn?t forage for food- he had no idea which plants would kill you or give you a rash. Or even which ones were edible. He was screwed. He?d have to be in an alliance with Glimmer, his district partner, the District 2 kids, and the kids from 4. And even then, he had such a small chance that he might as well kill himself now. This was a suicide mission- but not by choice. No one had volunteered for him. Not even his bigger, stronger, faster best friend Phox. His sister, Vibia, had stood there, not even crying. He couldn?t understand why no one would be upset over his death. Well, his mother might. But no one else. Of course, the Capitol would pretend to care, but they wouldn?t. He loved the Capitol, but they got a bit? bloodthirsty for his taste at times. He pretended to be excited about being in the Hunger Games, but honestly? He was scared out of his wits. He wondered if he should write a will and if so, who he should give it to. Glimmer watched as her stupid district partner picked up a dagger and considered it. He would never make it out of the Games. Glimmer, however, had different plans for herself. She just knew that she could win, especially with her district token. It looked like an ordinary ring, but when you twisted it, a poisoned spike came out of it. She couldn?t wait to use it in the Games. If anyone found the spike, she would claim she didn?t know it was there. Marvel on the other hand? Of course, she wouldn?t DARE kill Marvel herself, but he would die eventually. Everyone would. Except for her, of course. Her only competition was that pesky little District 12 girl. She had no idea how to take her out. Well? maybe there was something she could try? but no, she didn?t know which berries were poisonous and which were safe. If only she could handle a bow and arrow. She would have to team up with those tributes from Districts 2 and 4. That Cato was really cute? maybe she?d get a chance to *ahem* get some excitement in before he died. It was a pity that both of them couldn?t live. Their children would be so attractive. Too bad. Glimmer would meet another, handsomer boy back in District 1. All she had to do was take out 24 kids. Not a problem. Or was it? District 12 released the string of her bow and the arrow landed in the middle of the target. Glimmer put her head in her hands. The 74th Hunger Games were going to be longer than she had initially thought, that?s for sure.
