How To Hunt With A Bow

Bow Hunting - Natural Way Of Hunting

Hunting with a Bow is quite a famous sport; there are a few things a novice bow hunter should learn before getting into the thrilling game of bow hunting. First is to learn about laws and regulations of hunting in different states as hunting seasons and laws vary from one State to other. To get information about a particular state, get in touch with game and fish commission or similar agencies to ensure the exact rule, season of hunting, and state laws. A hunting license is compulsory in every state with exception for some private hunting clubs offering organized bow hunts.

Then learn everything you can about variety of bows that are available. Though the selection of bows, the type, and brand may differ as per the individual's choice, a lot depends on the season, the animal you want to hunt, state and national rules regarding the hunt etc. There are hunting bows of four types

• Stick bow

• Recurve

• Compound bow

• Cross bow

The first is Stick bows. A stick bow is the long English bow. It is as high or may be slightly higher than a normal individual, in the shape of "D" and does not have a recurve.

The next is Recurves. The side view of a recurve bow shows the curve ending away from the shooter at the tip. This lends a bigger throw to the arrow.

Recurve bows are preferred on bow hunting because they are smaller than a normal stick bow and easier to handle while going through forest areas on horseback. .

Then comes the Compound Bow which is a modern bow. It is a normal bow constructed in combination with a technique of cams, cables and pulleys to give higher speed to arrow. It is essential to judge the draw weight and bow length of your choice and for this consult an expert. Bows are not one size fits all.

The fourth is Cross bow for target shooting and bow hunting. A cross bow is made of a stock on which the bow is fixed. An activated trigger on the stock shoots arrow like projectiles from the bow.

Once familiar with laws of hunting, and after completion of preconditioned requirements to hunt legally like licenses and safety courses in hunting, and selection of the right bow, then decide on the type of arrows to be used.

There are variety of arrows with long handles like cedar, aluminum and carbon. Choose which arrow handle will be best suited for your bow, where you will be hunting, what you will be hunting and if there are any government or hunt club rules to be followed. Ensure with an expert archery dealer, until you can select the arrows best for your bow hunting experience

anyone here have experience in writing short stories for children?
Grandfather the Brave... Grandfather wore red suspenders and a brown hat with a small brim. He walked with a slight limp, but the use of a cane leveled him.His hair was long and slightly gray, the feathers of a Hawk he wore in his long braid. Together the side walk the six of us certainly did invade. His head was always lifted high, you could tell in his face he was full of pride. As we walked two steps behind him all the way, we could hear talking, whispering and giggling, you should have heard what the people had to say. Grandfather said he did not care.He is a Brave and he wasn't scared. He taught us many things through the years how to hunt with a bow, how to set a trap, to plant maze and wheat in the field." Plenty is our yield". It all stands straight in a row. He knew just what it takes to make it all grow. We learned how to fish without using a pole. Grandfather knew that we all looked up to him. He knew to us he was A great hero not to be condemned. He said to me ,Takoda get your coat come walk the plains with me .We walked for at least seven miles. Grandfather really loves the Land .We saw elk, raccoons and deer. Birds and squirrels filled the large timbers with wonderful sounds to hear. Grandfather stopped and said to me, Takoda you are the oldest your a man it will soon be your job to look after the others and take care of them. Your brothers are young and not quiet ready for the great hunt of life.Take special care to watch over the smallest one because you see, Lakota is The Chosen One. I said Grandfather are you kidding me ? Lakota is clumsy he reads books and he's way to small ! Grandfather replied, He will be the one to protect us all. I said Grandfather are you sure you don't mean Kuruk ? He is strong and a great hunter, and with the bow he is an expert. Grandfather replied , The greatest warriors aren't always the strongest Takota. With that answer tumbling in my head I let Grandfather carry on with was he was trying to get said . He spoke of the days when he was born .He told of how he and his parent's were forced to travel many miles without adequate food and water across the American lands he called it "The Trail of Tears ".I said Grandfather why such a name ? He said because we loss many families walking this trail. Grandfather had tears falling from his face as he talked on about that horrible trail. I said Grandfather tell me about the Bear !! Remember Grandfather the one who's coat you now wear. I wanted Grandfather to change the subject. Ahh... yes Takota he said, well that Bear is now very much dead.He said it with a grin across his face form "ear to ear". Takota, "look up " Grandfather said, can you see all the spirits of the Great Indian's? I saw nothing but decided to agree.Sure Grandfather I see them .He went on to say well someday soon I will be free like them. When my work here is through. I have taught you and your brothers to hunt and plant ,fish and skin. It will soon be up to you to teach them love and compassion and common sense. Since they are without a father or mother I place this responsibility on your shoulders. I replied yes Grandfather I will do for you my very best. Grandfather nodded his head and we turned around and returned home to the rest, even Lakota the small little pest. Then one day Grandfather grew very old. He gathered us around his bed and told us his time had come. He said he needed to go. He told us of the great spirit Guides they will carry his spirit into the sky. He said not to cry for him, When we need him just call out his name . His spirit will be with us through our pain. He took out the feathers from his hair, handed one to me and Lakota the other. Grandfather closed his eyes and went to sleep. We sat with him until his end he did meet. I wiped the tears from my eyes tied grandfather's feather into my hair and told my brothers to prepare for our journey to carry Grandfather to his place of rest. We wrapped him in sheets of white, place him in the truck bed and drove him to his favorite place across the plains this would be his burial ground. Once there we prepared a fire and to the Spirits Grandfather we gave .And for just a moment I would swear I saw Grandfather's spirit enter a Hawk soaring High in the sky over or the tall pines .Many years have come and gone my brothers have now all grown. Kuruk is a champion Bow Shooter a line of trophies line his walls. Anoki is married and has five sons of his own. Makya now sell houses to those who need a home. Lakota the small and clumsy one,Well he has become famous,He uses the feather Grandfather gave him to sign documents. His job is preserving the Great Indian plains. I guess now I understand what Grandfather meant when he said Lakota would protect us all. Last but not least is me, I am Takoda Well as you can see I am a Story Teller with great Stories to tell of an Old Indian that walked with a cane. Grandfather the Brave who's Spirit soars on the wings of a Hawk over the Great Mid-Western plains. A Short Story Written by :Joy Sorrells please tell me do you think this is good enough to enter into an amature contest?do you think there is a way to make it better? I am open to any and all truly helpful suggestions. Molly sure I could use the help . Thank you !
