How to Play the Violin As an Absolute Beginner

Learning how to play the violin is both an exciting and challenging time. There can be highs and lows, moments of frustration and moments of great achievement and satisfaction. This article is all about how you can prepare for progress even before you begin on the road of musical education.

Buying A Good Instrument.

I could write or talk for hours on this part of preparation, but here I will try and keep it simple. You do need a good instrument. I am not talking of spending thousands on your first violin and bow but also don't be afraid to invest. If you do not buy a good quality beginner model then you may be hampered by it's lack of playability. A good instrument will be a little easier to play and it should produce a satisfying tone that will leave you inspired, excited and switched on to the sound.

Practice Schedule

Practice is by far the most important part of learning any instrument or new skill. It is therefor imperative that you begin to plan out some kind of practice schedule. Your teacher can help you with what and how to practice but right now even before your first lesson you can decide when and where you are going to practice.

Some people find practicing at the same time every day keeps them in routine, whilst other may vary it a little. My tip is to have some times throughout the week that are written down. Stick to these times allocated to work on your playing and try not to break your own appointment.

Finally, Listen To Some Music

This sounds a little strange but you must listen to lots of music with the violin as a central instrument. This could be some orchestral works or even some solo's or concerto's from the worlds finest players. Why not hunt around YouTube to find some great violin videos?

Listening to lots of music like this will help to improve your ear, give you better understanding of tone, phrasing and articulation not to mention that it will help keep you inspired!

Learning how to play the violin is an exciting time. If you prepare well you will achieve and learn much more in your lessons.

When should your have been killed yet you were not even scratched?
I was raised on a farm. We raised our own beef, chickens, huge vegetable guarden, had 16 acres of apples, pears and cherries. When I was 10, I thaught it would be a great idea to spray water on a bull to cool him off and get some of the flies off him. I was inside the corral when I did this. The bull charged me, picked me up between it.s horns(the horns are under my arm pits) and it rams me into the loading ramp. The loading ramp had 12 by 12 posts buried in cement and braced. The bull was trying to kill me, and it hit the only 2 foot area which would stop it's charge. I am between post and bull ,4 feet off the ground with 2,000 Pounds of rage trying to gore me. My father had bought the last of the U.S.A. Army calvery horses just after WW11. She was a huge pinto we used as a hunting pack horse and to ride as kids. She was dominant over the cattle. The horse (Named Pinto) ran to my rescue, raised up on her hind legs and came down with her hooves right in the middle of bulls back.

How is this for a green beast deck, Magic: The Gathering?

It has a little low amount of lands for a beast deck, but with the look through deck for mana cards, tap creatures for mana, and the 8 medium costing creatures that reduce mana costs, it makes up for it. I plan on finishing this deck by getting 2 Stampeding Serows. It has an excellent balance of 3 mana costing cards, regeneration, life gain (even though it's 1 card), and power. Flyers can be blocked early with Anurid Swarmsnapper and later with Needleshot Gournas. The point of the deck, like any other beast deck is to overflow the mana pool fast, and send out the biggens. I have many combos for that. Krosan Drovers and Warchiefs, reducing the costs, Cryptic Gateway for freebies, and the Stampeding Serow/Fierce Empath combo. I first play Fierce Empath, get a Rhox. Then that turn or next, I play Stampeding Serow. At the beginning of my turns, I return Fierce Empath and replay it. I get my badass beasts out at a rediculous rate and overrun them (not the card Overrun). Also, no one ever expects to see a Rhox gain 7/ 7 when I play Might of Oaks. Of course we all know that decks are never done because more cards come out, but this deck for the msot part is done. Please, comment and any other suggestions. I know about Nature's Will and combo with Cryptic Gateway and Intruder Alarm. I like what I have and how you don't see some of these combos much. P.S. I have never played this in tournaments before, just with many many friends.

How can I get those people who call with the watchtower magazine to call more frequently?
Recently at the manor we have an elderly couple come around selling some religious magazine call The the watchtower, it was rather fortuitous timing as we had the fox hunting pack out for its daily exercise. I turned them loose on the elderly couple and while the elderly gentleman was not much use ( going down to the dogs in the first 20 metres) the elderly lady put on an excellent turn of speed and almost made ir to the end of the drive way. which got me thinking , if I could get some younger couples calling say once or twice a week it would save the foxes on the estate until the actual hunting days, additionally they would be fleeter of foot and provide better exercise for the dogs. I must say I was very impressed with the old lady who must have been 87 if a day, if this is what religious conviction does then I say there should be more of it.

"Private Treaty Only" only....?
I was looking through ads for hunting dogs tonight and an ad I had come across last week read "For Sale, Private Treaty Only" and now reads "Sold, Private Treaty Only". What does the "Private Treaty Only" part mean? We hunt, have the hunting pack... but have never heard of this phrase.
